Trench Coats? For Fall? Groundbreaking.
After transitioning from a devastatingly hot summer — at least in the good ol’ state of Texas — it’s about time to push our summer clothes to the back of our closets and prepare for a slight (and much needed) chill in the air. With that being said, what better way to take advantage of a season transition than by being a little creative in your wardrobe with something unexpected…like with a trench coat?
Okay, fine. Trench coats aren’t exactly the pinnacle of creativity in one’s fall/winter wardrobe, but it’s certainly a known staple, to say the least. And it’s a staple for good reason: it’s a non-bulky top layer that keeps you warm and great for the rain, particularly when composed of materials such as cotton gabardine. With its classic design, it can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Who doesn’t appreciate versatility? Not only is the trench coat versatile in its anatomy, but it also translates seamlessly in both classic (think Burberry and Ralph Lauren) and avant-garde (Sacai, Junya Watanabe, and Maison Margiela) renditions. In my opinion, this brings a fresh-air perspective to something that has its solid footing in cold weather style. With approachable dressing being the name of the game throughout the runways of New York, Milan, and Paris Fashion Week, the trench coat aligns seamlessly with the “trend”. Luckily for us, styling the trench coat is far from difficult.
